It's kind of a shame really, i've only been a member of this board for a week or two and had never heard of most of the people posting on that board, but even though some sounded like assholes, i kinda wish they had made it. It would be some inspiration.
I know i'm fighting an uphill battle trying to break in. It seems for every problem i solve 2 more show up.

there are several people around this board who do work professionaly. Just because you don't see them on TV or in "Heat" doesn't mean they don't work. "Hollywood" is not the be-all and end-all of film. We're filmmakers not actors. There's a hell of a lot out there that people do that never makes it "big". Check out MattJim's list in the other thread.
[EDIT] Also, I think most people here have in someway or another, made a short or feature. Even if it only sits on their shelf gathering dust, they still did it.
Sure it would be nice to have the big-budget money and the power, but I think if you took a quick census of the board, most people would be happier making their films their way. "Hollywood" doesn't have message boards, that's why we're here.
Also, most people don't use their "screen-name" on professional credits, which may explain why you haven't heard of them. If you want to stick "Directed by Matty2Phatty" on your flick...well...good luck to you.
Interestingly, if you punch "jb" into IMDb - you get some porn actor. But he's trading under J.B (I), so I think I'm safe. It is NOT me.

Yeah, i think you're right about hollywood, but i was just referring to getting our stories out there. If some of you guys have pulled that off, that's awesome.
I'm living in Australia, and the market here for our local films is pretty appalling. Australians often won't even give our own films a viewing. I think also the fact that our population is so much smaller than the UK or the US probably doesn't help things either.
I don't suppose you guys have ever managed to pull off international distribution on any films? that would be sweet.
And i must check this J.B characters credit list.

And don't knock Aussie films. As much as I, as a Briton, hate Australia and everything associated with it [img]wink.gif[/img] I did see "RedHeads" a few years back along with a couple of other Aussie flicks. Generally I thought they were of a pretty good standard. And don't forget "Mad Max".

no no, i wasn't saying the films themselves were bad, just that the market was. I could be wrong, but i'm pretty sure most of our films are getting million dollar film grants from the government, and aren't making that money back again.
I think the government is just happy to see the film industry keep trying.
I'd looked into applying myself, but they don't look kindly on my not having any published credits. Almost seems a catch 22.
